Blood, Blood And More Blood Spilled For ‘Evil Dead Rise’

What else would you expect from an Evil Dead entry?
A graphic, bloody image from the upcoming Evil Dead Rise dropped about a week ago, and now writer/director Lee Cronin has expounded on just how much fake blood he went through to film this latest entry in the classic horror franchise.
The film–slated for an April 21, 2023 theatrical release–splashed though some 1,700 gallons of the red stuff, Cronin recently told Empire, and he even had some left over to track home with him.
The filmmaker explained he had to “hire an industrial kitchen to create the amount of blood we needed. And then, when I was checking out, I had to warn the landlord that he would find bloody handprints all over the apartment. But they’re not real–honest.”
Cronin added that his film is “fueled by blood. You can either get off–or stay on ’till it explodes.”
Evil Dead Rise follows Beth (Lily Sullivan) as she visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) in Los Angeles. But it’s not long before the sisters discover “a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building,” according to the synopsis.
This leads to a confrontation with hordes of “flesh-possessing demons,” and throws Beth into “a primal battle for survival–as she’s faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
The big-screen bloodbath also stars Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.
