Man threw dog to its death from Paulina Brown Line platform, police say

Chicago — A Chicago man is facing felony animal cruelty charges for allegedly throwing his dog to its death from the Paulina Brown Line station in Lakeview on Thursday morning.
Demetrice Spencer, 43, threw the animal from the El platform to a concrete alley below around 1 a.m., Chicago police said.
Spencer called 911 around 1:30 a.m. from a service station in the 2800 block of North Ashland and reported that he wanted to be arrested for killing his dog, according to a CPD report. At about the same time, a passerby called 911 after finding a deceased dog with a leash around its neck near two bookbags under the train platform.
Police did not provide a motive for Spencer’s alleged actions. More details may emerge when he appears in bond court on Friday afternoon.
