A first photo has been released of former “The Walking Dead” and “Southland” actor Michael Cudlitz taking on the role of Lex Luthor in the upcoming third season of “Superman & Lois” on The CW.
This marks the latest screen incarnation of the classic Superman villain who most recently was played by Jesse Eisenberg in the Zack Snyder films, former “Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer across several seasons of “Supergirl,” and by “Bosch” star Titus Welliver in the recent season of HBO Max’s “Titans”.
As “Superman & Lois” has since been established as taking place in its own universe separate to the Arrow-verse shows, the villain needed to be recast. Cudlitz’s Luthor is expected to make his debut in the latter part of the season.
The actor spoke with EW about taking on the part and says he wants to offer a new look at Luthor who will be slightly different than his other portrayals:
“This whole experience so far has been amazing. From the collaboration with our showrunners Todd [Helbing] and Brent [Fletcher] to the incredibly warm welcome I received from Tyler [Hoechlin] and Elizabeth [Tulloch] and the entire cast and crew. I cannot wait to share with the fans how much fun we’ve been having. Personally, I’ve always felt Lex was just misunderstood.”
This version sees Luthor as still the billionaire creator of LexCorp, but also a well known entity within the criminal underworld and is dubbed a “brutal psychopath”.
“Superman & Lois” has its third season premiere tonight on The CW.
