‘Stranger Things’ Anime Spinoff Brings The Action To Tokyo

The Upside Down turns itself inside-out.
While fans wait for Matt and Ross Duffer to polish the fifth and final season of their hit series Stranger Things–expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2024–they can take heart that there are more stories to tell–of the animated variety.
A new anime adaptation of the live-action show is in development, according to a report on What’s on Netflix. The spinoff–entitled Stranger Things Tokyo–reportedly will also be set in the 1980s, and will follow an encounter with the Upside Down “that evolves into an adventure for game-loving twin brothers living on the outskirts of Tokyo,” according to the brief logline.
No other details have yet been announced on the six-hour-long anime, but the Duffers have said the new series will be “1,000 percent different” from the current show, but will still “share connective tissue” with the live-action Stranger Things. Fans will have to wait awhile to find out exactly what that means–no release window for the anime has been revealed.
