Trailer For Documentary JUDY BLUME FOREVER is Both a History Of and a Tribute To the Writer — GeekTyrant

A new trailer has been released for the documentary Judy Blume Forever, a history of the author who brought us classics like Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Blubber, Superfudge, Tiger Eyes, Wifey, Forever…, Summer Sisters, and so many more. Her books entertained us, educated us, and showed us we were not alone, and apparently that really pissed some people off!

Blume has confronted her fair share of controversies over her frankness about puberty and sex in her writing. Despite that, her 29 books have sold more than 90 million copies and have been printed in 32 languages.

Davina Pardo and Leah Wolchok, the team behind the Emmy-winning doc Semi Serious, directed and produced the project with Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes, and Marcella Steingart of Imagine’s documentary unit. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard also executive produced.

Here’s the full synopsis for the documentary:

Generations of readers have found themselves in a Judy Blume book. Her name alone launches a flood of memories for anyone who’s gripped one of her many paperbacks. For decades, Blume’s radical honesty has comforted and captivated readers — and landed her at the center of controversy for her frankness about puberty and sex. Now the beloved American author candidly shares her own coming-of-age story.

Produced by Imagine Documentaries and directed by Emmy-winning filmmakers Davina Pardo and Leah Wolchok, Judy Blume Forever traces Blume’s journey from a fearful, imaginative child to storytelling pioneer who elevated the physical and emotional lives of kids and teens, to banned writer who continues to fight back against censorship today. Playful and poignant animations celebrate the magic and awkwardness of being young, while intimate conversations with acclaimed authors and artists reveal Blume’s profound impact on readers. Long-standing fans share open-hearted letters they wrote to Blume over decades.

The doc serves as a history, as well as a tribute to the author, and many celebrities who grew up reading her work sit down to explain her impact. Blume herself goes over the incredible amount of fan letters she has received over the years, noting that some became correspondents she befriended and continued to keep in touch with for many years.

I love Judy Blume. Her books meant a lot to me as a kid, especially as an adolescent, and they still do today. I look forward to hearing Blume’s whole story. Check out the trailer for the doc below, and watch Judy Blume Forever on Amazon Prime on April 21st. And check out the film adaptation of Blume’s famous novel, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, in theatres on April 28th.
